“Yearning for the Past”
is a collection of
nostalgic look backs of an old time
Irinjalakudite – Shri. K. R. Narayanan (Appan)
- who had been living in Western India
for about fifty and odd years. A
collection of articles on the bye gone
era of Irinjalakuda, this compilation
deals with the nostalgic memories of
this good old town, its people, temples,
Ayyangavu Maithanam, Government
High School, college, cinemas, teachers,
court, advocates, transport buses,
drivers and conductors, tailors, barbers
and many others engaged in different
trades in the good old days. Why? Even
the ghosts and other metaphysical beings
of yore too find a place in these look
backs. The impressions and experiences
of his home town and its people are
vividly described in these look backs –
at times with a dash of humor. “Appan
brings back the Fragrant Memories of a
Foregone Era to us all” observes
Shri. K. V. Ramanthan, the reputed
writer and a Retired Head Master of
Irinjalakuda, in his Foreword to this
collection of Irinjalakuda stories.
A member of the fifth
generation of an ancient Ayyar Brahmin
